FEI Summit 2009 – Dick is also Chairman of the Committee responsible for the FEI 2009 Summit at the Gaylord Texan.  The Committee is securing commitments for keynote speakers, C-Suite panelists and is selecting the topics and presenters for each of the Concurrent Session Tracks: Leadership/Personal Development, Private Company and Technology.

 

Dallas Chapter members Laura Wright, CFO of Southwest Airlines, and Patrick Mulva, VP & Controller of ExxonMobil, have agreed to participate on the C-Suite panel.  Commitments by two additional panelists are pending.  Zanny Minton-Beddoes, US Economic Editor for The Economist magazine will moderate the panel discussions. 

 

Dick is looking for someone who can help recruit T. Boone Pickens as a keynote speaker.

Dallas Chapter National Liaison Report

Dick Rosebery, Elkorp (R)

Executive Search Committee – Dallas Chapter National Liaison Dick Rosebery is on the Search Committee to find a new President and CEO for FEI.  Jim Abel will continue as President until a successor is on board.  The Committee has looked at over 25 candidates recommended by FEI members and expects to have a replacement in place by January 2009.

 

The Committee is looking for someone with strong financial technical knowledge and experience that can represent FEI in financial matters being considered by regulatory organizations such as the SEC, FASB, PCAOB, IASB, etc. and legislative matters being considered by Congress. The successful candidate also needs to have the ability and experience to manage a small business with a staff of 40 people and a $10-12 million annual budget.  Not-for-Profit experience is not necessary.

companies.  The FAS 5 letter also supports an exemption for private companies and will be sent to FASB in August.  The Committee on Corporate Reporting is also drafting a separate letter on the FAS 5 issue. 

 

Policy Subcommittee:  The Policy Subcommittee had its last call on July 29th.  The subcommittee reviewed and updated its current top priority issues and discussed legislative updates.  The subcommittee decided to add LIFO accounting to its list of legislative priorities.  The subcommittee is still determining what specific issues of LIFO it will devote attention. The remaining priorities for the subcommittee include: the individual alternative minimum tax (AMT), the Interest Charge Domestic International Sales Corporation (IC-DISC), deferred compensation, Sub S Reform, the estate tax, immigration and the employee free choice (union issue).

 

Committee on Benefits Finance (CBF)

Staff Liaison: Serena Dávila

The Committee is planning for its next meeting on September 10-11 in Washington, DC.  The Committee is currently creating the agenda for this meeting and beginning to recruit speakers.  CBF will next be drafting a comment letter on IAS 19 -Accounting for Employee Benefits.  The comment letter is due on September 26.  In preparation for this letter, the committee is looking into having a webcast on the issue. 

 

Committee on Finance & Information Technology (CFIT)

Staff Liaisons:  Bill Sinnett; Maria Zadravac

CFIT is currently drafting a comment letter to the SEC’s proposed rule, “Interactive Data to Improve Financial Reporting” (XBRL).  Bob Shultz, Vice President of Internal Audit at Hewlett Packard, has replaced Taylor Hawes of Microsoft as CFIT Chair as of July 1.

 

 

CFIT’s next meeting will be hosted by Grant Thornton in Chicago on September 25-26.  Presentations will include:

n The COSO Monitoring Project, presented by Grant Thornton, the COCO project author

n Automated Information Controls, presented by Infogix

n Technology Issues for Financial Executives Survey, by Jerry Boltin of CSC, the survey’s author

Committee on Government Business (CGB)

Staff Liaison: Matt Miller

At CGB’s May meeting, Vice Chairman Paul Cienki and CGB’s staff liaison, Matt Miller, held a brainstorm session where the idea for a national business coalition on IFRS-related issues was discussed.  Their subsequent collaboration with FEI’s Christine DiFabio and CCR member, Talia Griep, led to FEI’s announcement of the Corporate Roundtable on International Financial Reporting (CRIFR) on June 5, 2008. 

 

CGB’s next meeting is scheduled for August 7-8, 2008.  The meeting will be held in Irvine, California at the Parker Hannifin Corporation’s facility.

 

Items on the agenda include: a legislative and regulatory update from Steve Knight (Smith, Pachter, McWhorter); an OMB and policy discussion by Renee Courtland (Dutko Worldwide, LLC); an update on the Cost Accounting  Standards Board’s activities from CGB member, Bruce Timman (Alliant Techsystems), who serves as the industry representative on the CAS Board; an update on the FEI
